  1. In 5 years, 86 staff members have been left because PS 89x is a toxic environment for teachers to work at. Tenured teachers are being set up for ineffective/developing ratings in large number, The principal and his assistants set up Got You observations, and falsify reports. The contract is being violated continuously, and teachers are being asked to complete three times the amount of work that other schools do not do. The principal is being protected even when OSI and special education complaints have been made. Intimidation tactics occur daily, and the Danielson Evaluation Process is not being implemented properly. Human and Civil Rights cases are at a all time high. THE DOE is protecting this principal for all the wrong doing he does.

    • All that is said in the comment above is 100 percent true.

    • So “Educated” you meant Human and Civil Rights cases are at “an” all time high… right?

      I hope you don’t teach literacy…

      • You are an idiot…that’s not called “educated” it’s called a “typo”. May you forever be cursed with a boss the likes of this guy.

      • It's All for the Children

So Ironic, you meant, “Educated,” you meant “Human and Civil Rights cases… high, right?”

Punctuation is a component of the English Language Art standards, I believe.

        Your pedanticism needs refining.

    • I have taught in schools like PS89 and know how these incompetent and glory-seeking individuals work. Teachers with great and innovative ideas are side-lined or maligned. Please work to stop this procedure.

    • Wow this seems to be the work conditions in most of the schools within the nycdoe. Same complaint across the board from teacher. This the main reason teachers leave this system in droves and all a reason I will not work as a teacher there.. my piece of mind is worth more to me than all the money they offer. Sorry for you teachers there. Best

  2. This man displays sociopathic behaviors. He is very dangerous. I don’t know who or how many DOE “superiors” are protecting this principal but he is a danger to the students, staff and parents of the P.S 89 community. His illegal and unethical behaviors have been reported numerous times to SCI and OSI and he still reigns.

  3. Many seasoned teachers are being “sold down the river” and the Bronx UFT seems to be Powerless to bring this Principal to Justice. We want Justice!

  4. Learn how to write “Educator”,You probably failed the state test

  5. This is such lies about a great person that is working for the students in his building. Stop spreading lies and stick with the facts.

    • You must be one of his puppet.

      • I know this is a tricky grammar rule, but when you say “You must be one of his puppet,” you are actually referring to a larger group which would make puppet the plural version. To make puppet plural, add an s. It’s puppets. You meant to say “You must be one of his puppets.”

        See how nice that sounds?

      • I guess I am and loving every moment of it. Stop spreading lies. You did not do your job so you had to go. Stop blaming him for your short comings and the fact is you all do not care about those students in that building you leave everyday from there and go to your white neighborhood and do not care about those students, they are just a pay check for you.

        • It's All for the Children

A paycheck? Your insensitive comment shows your ignorance. Our children are not a paycheck. They are living, breathing, sentient beings who are more than data. I love my students. I am still in contact with dozens of former students who are now adults. Veteran teachers have put their life’s blood into their professions, and often at their own expense. I personally spent over $14,000 of my OWN money to do my job to the best of my ability. This principal is manipulative and unkind. He lies. He places letters in teacher files that have no basis upon reality. He is flagrantly abusive to and discriminatory against veteran educators. Why would you assume the commenter is white? Tell me, were all of the 80-90 educators that were either ousted by him, or left in exodus of their own accord, among those who did not do their jobs? Do you not recognize the incredibly vibrant red flag that this demonstrates? Are you among those who kiss and hug him in the hallways, call him “Ralph” (now there’s an accurate pun) and take photos of colleagues to show him? Just wait, some day you will be a seasoned teacher, and you will be considered useless, too. Some day you may be part of his “40 and over club.” I hope not, but just keep vigilant watch. You will witness it come to pass.

  6. A Former Student

Number one learn how to write a well developed statement if your gunna leave a statement I don’t understand how you can be considered an “Educator” and Principle Martinez fixed 89 up and I am someone who graduate 89 and attended 89 before he was the principal and as he was the principal

    • How about you learn to write in general? I guess all of the new hacks that were hired did a great job with you!!!

    • It's All for the Children

      1. Number one, (please include a comma.)
      2. Please include a period following the word statement. It is the ending of a complete thought, also referred to as a sentence.
      3. Well-developed (the word should be hyphenated.)
      4. Please place a period after up… It is a run-on sentence.
      5. Gonna… because gunna is not a word in the English language.
      6. Graduated… (keep your tenses consistent within your writing.)
      7. Please place a period after the word “principal.” Ending punctuation is important.

  7. Anonymous I think you should stick to one side of the debate. For the matter being that you already agreed with the statement made by the “Educator”. You should both gather all the facts together so that the next time you voice your opinion you’ll have enough evidence to back up your statement. That is one thing that I learned while attending P.S 89 under the administration of Principal Ralph Martinez.

  8. Obviously the poeple who wrote in defense of Principal Martinez above are people that he has in his pocket. Please keep in mind that thos is a man with no moral code and does not have his staff of student’s best interest in mind. Someone above states that ” people need to get their facts together”, well I can assure you that after working for this man for the past 5 years that people most definately have their facts together. The people who defend this man are either new teachers or one of his buddies. What they fail to realize is that at any moment he will go after them too. Get your head together ass kissers , you may feel special now but give it some time you’ll be disposable too.

    • Gosh, where to start.

      Well, first “people,” not “poeple.”

      Also “this,” not “thos.”

Also you meant “or” not “of.”

      Also “definitely” not “definately.”

When you say “student’s” you are communicating to your readers a single student has ownership over something. In the sentence you used “student’s” within, this obviously doesn’t fit (unless you are telling us that Principal Martinez only doesn’t look out for the best interests of a single child.) What you meant to write was “his staff or students’ best interests in mind,” (notice how I also made “interests” plural since the subject of your sentence is more than one).

Also, “What they fail to realize is that at any moment he will go after them too.” When you place an interjecting clause in the middle of thought you really ought to use commas. It really should have read “What they fail to realize is that, at any moment, he will go after them too.”

I won’t even touch the passive voice.

  9. A Former Student

I am not in no ones pocket so you really need to get your facts together. You really have no life spreading rumors that aren’t true about a Man who fixed 89 up. If you were an “Educator” and worked at 89 before Martinez was principal and as he became principle you would know how much 89 progressed with Martinez as Principal. Especially in my perspective I was in Sixth Grade when Martinez became principle at 89 and that’s when the progression of 89 began. He Created Academies, He gave every classroom air conditioners, He got laptops for online Academic courses, Every class room was giving smart boards for students to be taught in new and advanced ways and he done so much more. I find it unrealistic for an “Educator” to stoop as low as a child a create untrue rumors about a wonderful man

    • Get your teaching licence, then go work at PS 89. I will bet every dollar I have that you will change your perspective in about a week!

  10. Just because I’m defending Principal Martinez doesn’t make me a puppet, nor an ass kisser, I’m someone who’s seen everything first hand I know what Principal Martinez has done to change P.S.89 for the better because I’ve went through the change. I know what it feels like to not have enough resource to accommodated every student for their specific educational needs. He turned that school around in a way that no other person could, we now have iPads, tablets, computers, labrops and smart boards in every classroom. The amount of fights and brawls that happens 5 years ago compared yo know is a HUGE difference. So if this makes me an “Ass kisser” for spreading the good things that this man has some so be it.

    • P.S.89 students deserve better

I myself have seen everything first hand, and I can assure you that their were several Special Education compliance issues. I myself had been pretty much fored into encouraging parents to eliminate services for their children on their IEP’s . I am also harrassed on a daily basis by administrators because I am an experienced teacher that makes a higher salary. When the state came in they noted almost a dozen Special Education violations, so what’s your answer to that?. If you have any love or concern for the students of this school you need to stop defending a man that is taking away their services. This is not about you or me, this is about whats right for the students.

  11. Ok Ironic,

Please excuse my poor grammer and punctuation in my post, I was typing very quickly because and may not have edited my post (Sooooo what) .The fact still remains that this Principal is an infair and unjust man. And the proof is in the teacher turnover in the school. I myself am still working there and have to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation from this vindictive man, I also have to endure his frequent harassment because He would like to get rid of me so that he can hire another new teacher for half of my salary. His favorite line to his staff is ” two for the price of one”. I’ve just explained my reason for keeping my post anonymous , but what’s your reason for doing so? You’ve got nothing to loose.

  12. It’s amazing to me that anyone would defend this tyrant…then again, they defended Adolph in his early years, didn’t they?

    • This man is a disgrace, he tries to and have sexual relationship with many of his teachers. If you are not pretty enough, you will find yourself on his hit list. Many of these teachers defending this man has been in his bed, they are all disgraceful and do not have our kids best interest at heart.

    • It's All for the Children

      Indeed.

  13. Parent of Former PS 89 Student

My son was a student at this school. When he returned to school after chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries. He was in a wheelchair. His IEP was not implemented , even with my constant visits to the school. In addition, this principal would avoid speaking with parents on a regular basis. Often claiming to be on his way to a meeting.when my son was bullied, he made no effort to curtail the bullying. He took no action until my son was assaulted, on video, and said video was posted online. Even then it was only afte the police showed up to arrest the boys who beat up my son and posted it online. I have expressed my concerns through the chain of command. It wasn’t until I reached the Mayors office of disability services that I received anything that could be interpreted as follow up.
I would also like to add, I personally know 3 of the teachers he ran out of 89. These are educators, who while my son was hospitalized being treated for stage 4 lymphoma, came to the hospital, did lessons with him on their own time. (Which greatly helped his spirit) Those teachers initiated a blood drive to secure blood products for him as well (he has a rare blood type)
This principal is not for the children , not when he instituted an ongoing campaign against his own teachers
