After hearing about a meeting here on the DTOE.org site, approximately twenty discontinued teachers met with UFT Secretary Emil Pietromonaco and Staff Director Leroy Barr to find out their fate.
The group is eager to undo the damage done to their careers, by unscrupulous principals and superintendents, and get back to educating our youth.
In recent years, the Department of Education changed it so once a principal or superintendent discontinues a teacher, they are problem coded and barred from being hired. Chancellor Fariña has continued with this awful practice despite UFT President Michael Mulgrew prancing around with her and boasting how well they work together.
After speaking to the discontinued teachers, guidance counselors and school psychologists, who attended Monday night’s meeting, it was evident that they were ready to take action.
We informed them that if the UFT didn’t have the answers, that Senior Superintendent Laura Feijoo, Deputy Chancellor Dorita Gibson, Executive Director of Employee Relations Katherine Rodi, Director of Office of Labor Relations David Brodsky and OPI Director Edward Schlenoff did. These are all DOE top brass appointed under Bloomberg.
The fact that they are all still here is only further evidence that Chancellor Fariña and Mayor Bill de Blasio have not come close to undoing the damage done by the previous administration.
ACTION PLAN:
Discontinued educators are urged to join DTOE.org and come speak at the next Panel for Educational Policy on November 25th at Fashion Industries.
New York State Education law allows for discontinued teachers to work in other districts.
